Description
August 6, 1945--President Truman dropped the world's 1st atomic bomb on Hiroshima to slow the country's military development.
It would take 100 nuclear missiles to change the global society so dramatically that it would negatively affect the country conducting the attack. I'm all for healthy military defense, but there is such a thing as "overkill." World leaders recognized the capacity for global destruction, and knew they had to do something to slow the arms race.
July 1, 1968, The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, aka the NPT, is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament. The NPT was negotiated and signed under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
And yet....trillions of US tax dollars have still gone into managing nuclear weapons. "Between 1940 and 1996, the U.S. spent at least $9.49 trillion in present-day terms on nuclear weapons development. Over half was spent on building delivery mechanisms for the weapon. $595 billion in present-day terms was spent on nuclear waste management and environmental remediation."
If there was any question as to why taxes are frustrating to so many Americans! The original Bitcoin Whitepaper by Satishi Nakamoto puts an emphasis on anonymity to create distance between the individual and the centralized monetary system of their respective government...including the taxes which could potentially be used in morally objectionable ways.
May we advance in our journey towards embodying a Great and Peaceful Nation with leaders that learned from the past.
